Why Kyrgyzstan

Lakes where the sky sleeps.

The lakes

Song-Kul at 3,016 m, the hidden turquoise Kel-Suu, and Issyk-Kul, the second largest alpine lake on earth. Water the colour of the sky, everywhere.

The nomads

Yurt camps where families move with the seasons. Dinner over a campfire, horses grazing at dawn, and more stars than you have ever seen.

The mountains

The Tian Shan. Passes over 3,000 metres, wild hot springs, red canyons and waterfalls. A landscape that changes every hour.

Good to know

Questions we get every week.

When is the best time to visit Kyrgyzstan?

June to September is the reliable window: the high passes are open, the yurt camps on Song-Kul are running and the nights are cold but dry. May and October work for the lower valleys such as Sary-Chelek. Belvi trips run from May to October.

How big are the groups?

Small on purpose. Most Belvi groups run with 4 to 8 travellers and the hard maximum is 12, which keeps the yurt camps, the homestays and the horses manageable and the pace slow.

Do I need a visa for Kyrgyzstan?

Citizens of the EU, UK, US, Canada, Japan and most OECD countries can enter Kyrgyzstan visa free for up to 60 days. You only need a passport valid for six months beyond your return date. We send a country note with your booking confirmation.

Is the altitude a problem?

Most of the route sits between 1,600 and 3,000 metres, and the highest point of the Grand Tour, the Ala-Kul area, is above 3,900 metres. The itinerary climbs gradually, the walking is optional, and the horses do most of the work. Tell us about any heart or lung condition when you book.

What is included in the price?

Transport in a private vehicle, all accommodation (yurt camps and guesthouses), the guide, the national park fees and the horseback days listed on the itinerary. International flights, travel insurance, dinners in Bishkek and tips are not included.

How do I hold a place?

Pay a 10% deposit online and your place is held. The deposit is rounded up to the next ten, the balance is paid in cash on arrival, and you can also pay the whole trip online if you prefer.
