East Africa · Belvi VerifiedWildlife, chimps and gorillas.
Seven days across Uganda's great parks: chimpanzees in Kibale, the savannah and Kazinga Channel of Queen Elizabeth, tree-climbing lions at Ishasha, a full gorilla trek in Bwindi, and Lake Mburo on the way home.
Day by day.
Entebbe to the Kibale Forest
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport, meet your driver-guide and transfer to the Kibale Forest National Park, home of the chimpanzees. Check in at your guesthouse in the forest and relax. Optional (extra cost): Bigodi swamp walk, crater lakes or the Amabere caves.
Chimps in Kibale, then Queen Elizabeth
Morning briefing at the rangers' post, then trek the chimpanzees of the Kibale forest with an experienced ranger: colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys and Uganda mangabeys along the way. In the afternoon, transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Savannah and the Kazinga Channel
An early game drive on the Kasenyi plains: Cape buffalo, herds of elephants, lions and the occasional leopard. After lunch, a two-hour boat trip along the Kazinga Channel among hippos, crocodiles and hundreds of birds.
Ishasha's tree-climbing lions
Leave Queen Elizabeth and drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park through the Ishasha sector, famous for its resident tree-climbing lions (around 70% chance of spotting them). Continue to your lodge on the edge of the gorilla forest.
The gorillas
The day you came for: trek into the misty Bwindi forest with your rangers and spend one hour with a family of mountain gorillas, roughly half of the world's population lives here. Rest and absorb the afternoon.
Lake Mburo
Drive via Mbarara to Lake Mburo National Park: eland antelopes, zebras, topi, impalas, Uganda kob and Cape buffalo on an afternoon game drive. Optional (extra cost): night game drive for hyenas, owls and the rare leopard.
Park walk, then home
A guided morning bush walk with an armed Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger: zebras, giraffes, eland, and a hike to the hilltop for views over nine of the lake's twelve lakes. Then transfer to Entebbe airport for your flight (recommended after 6 PM).
